JOSEPH ÉLIE Ltée, offers you 100 years of experience in the heating-oil industry! The company was established in 1893 by a young man, Joseph Élie, who was then only 19 years old. Little did he know that he had just laid the foundation for what was to become a household word.
In its beginnings, the business was little more than a lumberyard where Joseph sold coal, firewood, hay and even... chickens! Then, in 1926, with the emergence of the fuel product industry, Joseph Élie began importing oil.
Over the years, JOSEPH ÉLIE Ltée became a prosperous family business. It attracted buyers and, in 1960, Gaston Élie (Joseph's eldest son) sold the company to a Belgian firm called Petrofina. In 1981, JOSEPH ÉLIE Ltée was acquired by Petro-Canada. After a partial privatization in 1990 that lasted 12 years, Petro-Canada became once again in 2002, the owner of the company at 100%.
