History

JOSEPH ÉLIE, a name with more than 100 years of history! The company was founded in 1893, in Pointe-Saint-Charles, by namesake Joseph Élie, then 19 years old. He didn't know it, but his company would grow to achieve a solid reputation.

In the beginning, the company was a lumber yard selling coal, firewood, hay, grains, even chickens!

In 1926, foreseeing the growing market for petroleum products, Joseph Élie began importing petroleum.

Over the years, JOSEPH ÉLIE became a prosperous family-owned business. The company attracted prospective buyers and, in 1960, Gaston Élie (Joseph's eldest son) sold it to Belgian oil company Petrofina. In 1981, JOSEPH ÉLIE was acquired by Petro-Canada. Following a process of partial privatization begun in 1990 and lasting 12 years, the company reverted to being exclusively owned by Petro-Canada in 2002.

Since 1893, Joseph Élie Ltée has continually adapted to the changing needs of its clients, maintaining its presence as an innovative industry leader.

Petro-Canada is a Suncor Energy business.
